Services

OUR SERVICES

We aim to provide a comprehensive service for all companion animals, from advice even before your new animal arrives, to the most sensitive end-of-life care   .

Vaccination

At Ashwood we are strong believers in vaccination for all dogs, cats and rabbits. We choose our vaccine brand not on price but on efficacy. Despite the "fake news" that abounds, there are very few situations where we would not advise vaccination, come and talk to one of our vets about it with no obligation.

Appointments

Appointments are available at a wide variety of times. We allow longer appointments than many surgeries to ensure we have plenty of time for case discussion. We aim to give clear explanations and recommendations and discuss all treatment plans fully, with you as the owner in control. Estimates are always available for any procedures planned.

Urgent Cases

Urgent cases will ALWAYS be seen the same day. If the condition is particularly urgent you may be asked to come to the surgery and wait - on arrival a Registered Nurse will assess your pet ("triage") and those patients requiring immediate attention will get it !
Outside working hours our answering machine will direct you to the out-of-hours energency service. Telephone advice will be available.

Full Surgical Facilities

The main surgery at Four Oaks has full operating theatre facilities. Our surgeons have a minimum of four years experience. We routinely perform neutering and elective surgery, soft tissue surgery and dentistry . At Ashwood your pet is in the safest of hands.

Digital X-Ray

Both clinics are eqipped with modern high-definition digital X-ray facilities. We are able to quickly obtain the highest quality diagnostic images of all patients, from Great Danes to Guinea Pigs. We can also take images for Breed Schemes such as the Hip Dysplasia scheme.

Ultrasound

Abdominal Ultrasound and Echocardiography (heart scans) are performed at the Main Surgery in Four Oaks, This is a minimally invasive procedure, and sedation or anaesthesia are not always necessary.

Clinics

We offer a full range of clinics led by highly qualified Registered Veterinary Nurses, such as our popular Weight Management Clinic, Senior Pet Clinics, New Puppy Clinics and Puppy Parties and Behaviour Clinics. These are in most cases offered free of charge to registered patients.

Laboratory

Both surgeries have comprehensive on-site laboratory facilities , allowing rapid assessment of results and prompt diagnosis and treatment. Results are mostly available same day, and in urgent cases we can process tests within 20 minutes.

Parasite Control

Safe, effective treatments are available for control and prevention of parasites , such as fleas, worms, mange mites and lungworm. The most effective products are prescription medicines, and so we can only supply these to registered clients.

Euthanasia

Definitely not the nicest part of our job, but a hugely important one. If and when the time comes to say goodbye to your trusted friend, we will do everything possible to make the journey as easy as possible, for you both. We will always give you honest advice , following the Ashwood principle  of "treat every patient like our own"

Pet Travel

We are able to complete the necessary requirements for pet travel. Please contact the surgery for advice as the requirements can be quite confusing.

Insurance

We will complete insurance forms on your behalf free of charge. We recommend insurance as a general rule but please do ask us for some guidance -  we are unable to recommend particular policies but we can give you our thoughts on the TYPE of insurace policies that are available and how they differ - there are bigger differences than most clients think !

Can Ashwood help with your pet?

If you think we can, then please get in touch, we would love to meet you and your furry friends. If your pet is already under treatment , we will need to contact your current vet for their clinical notes. This is routine and easily achieved.
